Projections of work documentation with discussion

The photographic and cinematographic works of Aboriginal artist Tracey Moffatt reveal the traces that racism and aggressive assimilation policies have left on Indigenous Australian culture during and even after the colonization process. She is a member of the so-called Stolen Generations – like many other Aboriginal children, she was taken from her parents to be raised by white settlers, in accordance with the 1869 Act, which the state of Australia only disavowed in 1997.

In her work, autobiographical moments are inextricably mixed with fragments of collective memory, in staged environments that emphasize the drama of the participants, but the narratives are always presented as unfinished and depicted non-linearly, challenging storytelling conventions. Her films are shown at festivals, while her photographic works and installations are included in gallery exhibitions. She represented Australia at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017.
