🎭 Volga Utiče u Kaspijsko More – Boris Piljnjak 🎭
Bitef Teatar presents a deeply literary theatre work: Volga utiče u Kaspijsko more (The Volga Flows into the Caspian Sea), based on the writing of Russian author Boris Pilnyak. The production takes place on April 23, 2026, at 20:00, directed by Vanja Vodeničarević with choreography by Tanja Tasić.
Boris Pilnyak was one of the most important Russian modernist writers of the early twentieth century, a visionary whose work grappled with the upheavals of revolution, modernity, and the vast geography of his homeland. His life ended tragically: arrested by Stalin’s regime, he was executed in 1938, only to be posthumously rehabilitated decades later. His writing survives as a testament to a literary imagination that refused to be silenced.
This production brings Pilnyak’s voice to the Belgrade stage in a creative staging that blends drama, movement, and music. The production team, including musical collaborators Veljko Karić, Branimir Bibić, and Ana Kostovska, promises an evening of layered theatrical poetry.
✨ Why you shouldn’t miss this? ✨
Serious literary theatre at Bitef Teatar is one of the great pleasures of Belgrade’s cultural scene. Pilnyak’s work, rarely staged, deserves attention from anyone interested in Russian literature, political history, or bold contemporary theatre. An evening for the mind and the heart.
